GUNNAR and RealD to Provide Professional Grade 3D Eyewear to Consumers
SAN DIEGO – December 9, 2010 – GUNNAR Optiks®, the leading manufacturer of digital performance eyewear, today announced that it has received RealD certification for its line of optical-quality 3D lens and eyewear. By fine-tuning the company’s patented i-AMP3D lens technology to meet RealD’s specification, GUNNAR ensures that movie aficionados can now experience what 3D professionals and 3D content creators have had access to since the beginning of the year – the highest quality 3D optics available in today’s marketplace. Residents of NYC may personally view them on display at the WIRED Store this holiday season.
“At GUNNAR, we concentrate on being first-to-market,” said Joe Croft, GUNNAR’s co-founder. “We were the first to offer an optically correct 3D lens, the first to introduce 3D premium eyewear in consumer electronics retail locations, and now we’re the first to offer professional grade 3D eyewear to consumers. It’s exciting to see the tools used by professionals who work with 3D content on a daily basis finally making it to the marketplace and put in the hands of visually discerning consumers as well.”
“GUNNAR Optiks is known around the world for its performance eyewear, and we’re excited for moviegoers to experience their cutting edge glasses technology the next time they see a film in RealD 3D,” said RealD President of Worldwide Cinema, Joseph Peixoto.
GUNNAR is unique as an eyewear innovator due to its global distribution within both the consumer electronics and premium optical retail environments. The RealD-certified 3D eyewear is currently available at Fry’s Electronics and online at Amazon.com, Buy.com, NewEgg.com, and gunnars.com, as well as domestic and international eyewear chains and independent eye care providers. Various frames are available for an MSRP of US$99 to $149. Prescription eyewear in additional configurations will be available in Q1 2011.

About GUNNAR Optiks 3D Eyewear
Using the same i-AMP® lens technology that made it the leading brand of digital performance eyewear, GUNNAR’s 3D lenses feature optimized light transmission, enhanced true color vision, maximized contrast ratio, and near perfect polarization efficiency to eliminate “ghosting” and degradation of 3D effects. Unlike molded plastic frames which distort optics when flexed and provide no chance for a customized fit, GUNNAR’s US made, passive circular polarized lenses are supported in metal, optical quality frames. A personal fit is guaranteed through spring hinges and ultra-comfortable, adjustable nose pads. Combining form and function, owners experience 3D movies and games with improved clarity while minimizing eyestrain. Additionally, 3D professionals can work with ergonomically correct eyewear that improves detail and optical resolution while reducing visual and physical discomfort. Whether the application requires running a military flight planning simulation, creating/viewing virtual 3D home and commercial architecture environments, or mapping the human genome through molecular modeling – GUNNAR’s professional line of 3D eyewear sets a new standard for visual performance.
