Company’s Flagship Mobile Franchise Generating Over $6 Million in Monthly Revenue Worldwide
SAN FRANCISCO — March 12, 2013—In advance of the Game Developers Conference(GDC) 2013 in San Francisco, international mobile game developer and publisher CocoaChina/Chukong has shared new revenue statistics about their flagship Fishing Joy franchise: the series is generating $6.28 million in monthly revenue with more than 10 million daily active users (DAU). In the last two months alone, the popular mobile game has doubled its monthly revenue. The franchise’s continued success is attributed to CocoaChina’s expanding distribution and continual optimization of the game, as well as an explosive growth of the Chinese smartphone user base.
These statistics set Fishing Joy apart as a truly leading mobile title on a global scale, as CocoaChina is among the very few game studios worldwide regularly securing over 10 million DAUs. The company has also witnessed explosive growth particularly as an innovator in the Chinese Android market, where revenue is much larger than the Chinese iOS market. Previously thought too fragmented for successful monetization, CocoaChina’s carrier billing and broad distribution to a large number ofthird-party Android markets have successfully proved analysts wrong.
CocoaChina has continuously increased store coverage and strengthened relationships with distributors in China, which has propelled Fishing Joy’s continued growth. They have also increased the game’s reach by reducing its package size, which incentivizes more bandwidth-conscious users to download the game. Built using Cocos2d-x (the 2D cross platform game engine primarily sponsored by CocoaChina), Fishing Joy and its sequel Fishing Joy 2 are case studies for building and distributing successful mobile games on an international level at a time when the Chinese mobile gaming market is growing rapidly.
Representatives from CocoaChina and Cocos2d-x will attending GDC later this month to talk about Fishing Joy’s remarkable success, show off games developed atop the Cocos2d-x platform to come from CocoaChina and its partners, and lay out their plans for continued growth in 2013 and beyond. They will also host a happy hour at GDC in San Francisco from 7:00PM – 9:00PM on Thursday, March 28th for Cocos2d-x partners and friends of CocoaChina.
