SAN FRANCISCO and WASHINGTON — Feb. 20, 2014 — DoubleDutch, the leading provider of mobile event applications, today announced an ongoing partnership with Georgetown University. After successfully deploying a mobile application for Georgetown’s New Student Orientation (NSO) program in August of 2013, DoubleDutch will provide additional applications for Georgetown University student and alumni events, including the upcoming John Carroll Weekend in Miami taking place from Feb. 20 to 23, 2014.

“As a proud Georgetown alumnus, it is a personal pleasure to build applications that make the university’s events more engaging than ever,” said Lawrence Coburn, CEO of DoubleDutch. “Our work for Georgetown’s New Student Orientation demonstrated the flexibility of our platform for any event, and we’re incorporating everything we learned from NSO to make the John Carroll Weekend app one of our best event apps yet.”

This year’s John Carroll Weekend will bring more than 1,200 Georgetown alumni and their guests to Miami for four days of exclusive tours, sessions, and events. DoubleDutch’s custom-built app will provide a single place for attendees and speakers to interact with each other, discuss session content, and reconnect with the Georgetown community on their mobile devices. The app’s built-in location tools will help attendees find their way to events around Miami, and organizers can update session information instantly to help guests be in the right place at the right time. As attendees post comments, check-in to sessions, and connect with each other, their aggregated interactions become a powerful source of data for the organizers to evaluate the success of the weekend, letting the university make targeted, data-driven improvements to next year’s John Carroll Weekend.

In the company’s first engagement with Georgetown, DoubleDutch developed a mobile app for Georgetown’s New Student Orientation in order to make programming more interactive and engaging for the incoming freshman class. Georgetown used the in-app leaderboard features to gamify participation and offer prizes for top contributors, and as a result, the NSO app was used by 85 percent of NSO participants for a combined 1,839 posts.

“Without a doubt, DoubleDutch’s NSO app created connections between students and the University that would never have existed without it,” said Lee Emmert, mobile program manager at Georgetown University. “After the success that we had with the NSO app, it was an easy decision to continue working with DoubleDutch for future events.”

DoubleDutch has built mobile applications for some of the largest associations, conferences, and tradeshows in the world, and the company will continue to expand its presence at university functions through partnerships with Duke, Arizona State, and the University of Pennsylvania.
