Industry Vets turned Indie Devs Showcase Darkly Humorous Hybrid Roguelike/JRPG on PC, PS4, PS3 and Vita
PHILADELPHIA – Feb. 17, 2015 – Five-man indie studio Grimm Bros today announced that they will showcase the latest demo of their debut title, the blackly humorous fantasy RPG Dragon Fin Soup, at PAX East in Boston March 6-8. An homage to the classic NES RPGs of their youth, Dragon Fin Soup seamlessly blends genres to create a fresh experience: half story-driven strategy RPG and half high-stakes roguelike, with a pinch of crass humor and a heaping helping of cohesive, comprehensive world-building.
“We set out to make a game that we wanted to play,” said Grimm Bros founder Ash Monif. “Something that moved like the NES RPGs we grew up on but with the graphical integrity we’ve come to expect in 2015; something shadowy and grim and also pervasively funny. Dragon Fin Soup is that game, and we’re so excited to share it with gamers like us at PAX.”
Dragon Fin Soup introduces players to a Red Riding Hood they’ve never met before. This Red Robin is a savage, salty sword-for-hire, a quick-talking fighter who’d rather deliver bounties than baked goods. Players must take up Robin’s blades and set out across Asura, a lushly colorful fantasy world that sits on the back of an enormous turtle, in a journey to discover the secrets of her bloody past. The game includes several different play modes, including a narrative-driven Story Mode, procedurally generated Endless Labyrinth Mode, and an intense Survival Mode that features permadeath.
At PAX East, the Grimm Bros will reveal a brand new game trailer, full of never-before-seen in-game footage. They will also debut a brand new way to play the game: this will be the first conference where Dragon Fin Soup is playable on the PlayStation Vita. The team will also reveal a new skin for lead character Robin, which will be modeled at the booth by cosplayer April Gloria (@aprilgloria). Kara (@ItsElectricLady) will model the game’s other playable character, Morgiana.
