At the Game Developers Conference 2016 (GDC), held in San Francisco on March 16 – 18, NetEase showcased the influence of Chinese games in the West, showing off its new real-time virtual reality MMORPG game, Genesis of Destiny for mobile devices, a game that puts players in the role of a pledger whose destiny is to combat crime alongside star guardians. In addition to the intriguing backstory, the game also creatively involves hero division, gifted skills, and quick time event combos. All these elements are embodied with visual quality and meticulous strategy that raises the bar for mobile and virtual reality games. In addition to Genesis of Destiny, NetEase also revealed Spark of Space, a new game set in a sci-fi world and offering players greater influence over every battle’s final outcome.
NetEase Games continues to draw international attention with its expanding operations around the globe. In fiscal year 2015, net revenues from its online games publishing business increased to RMB 17.3 billion (approx. USD 2.7 billion) from RMB 9.3 billion the previous year, achieving growth of 86.85 percent and gross profit of RMB 11.92 billion (approx. USD 1.84 billion) with margins reaching 68.8 percent.
