DepthSense™ 311 Professional Kit Able to Track from Less Than Six Inches, Enabling Laptop Capability

SoftKinetic logoBRUSSELS & LAS VEGAS – January 9, 2012 – SoftKinetic™, the leading developer of end-to-end gesture recognition solutions, today announced that its popular DepthSense™ 311 (DS311) gesture recognition camera solution now includes the ability to track gesture commands from less than one foot away.

The upgraded system will allow hand skeleton tracking (specifically the finger tips), opening the possibility of gesture-recognition enabled cameras in systems such as laptops and tablet devices. SoftKinetic will be demonstrating this technology at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), beginning tomorrow, in the South Hall, Upper Level, Booth 36062.

“We are pleased to be able to offer the world’s first close-interaction, depth-sensing camera,” said Michel Tombroff, CEO of SoftKinetic. “We predict that this affordable and powerful technology will open up endless opportunities for implementation and usher in a new era of gesture recognition for laptops, tablets and other personal electronics.”

The DS311 combines an RGB sensor (VGA), SoftKinetic’s depth sensor (QQVGA) and two microphones. Utilizing the patented DepthSense CMOS chip, the DS311 provides state-of-the art sensitivity and depth resolution. With optimal system performance, developers and OEM partners will be able to utilize the camera for gesture-based applications such as video games, interactive advertising walls, touch- and controller-less user interfaces and other exciting new user experiences, regardless of platform. All of this will be employed without the customary distance limitations of other camera systems.

The first implementation of the DS311 close interaction drivers is now available. Interested developers are encouraged to contact SoftKinetic as soon as possible.
